Virtual Disk /Virtual Filesystem / Virtual Machines Data Recovery inc. ESX
We recover Virtual Disks, VM's, vmdk files, vdisk's, Raid rebuilds etc from
devices such as rack mounted Terastations, RAID 5 LUN's with NTFS and VMFS
partitions. Disk Drive read errors usually cause the problems, and sometimes the unit
tries to rebuild but gets stuck in a failed loop of Raid rebuild attempts, leading to
raid errors.
RAID6 SAS drives and ESX VMWARE Vdisk recovery
Another favourite here are SAS HDD's disk drives from HP MSA2324fc G2 running RAID
6 and VMWARE host. Disks in the ADG Array failed and the MSA put the vdisk virtual
disk offline. Drives marked as LEFTOVR (left over) brought back online by customer
using the Trust command which unfortunately overwrote some of the data as the disk
had been out of sync while writing to other disks had continued with the raid in
degraded mode (this did mean some files were corrupt so the best advice is do not use
the TRUST command unless you do not care about the data). We rebuilt the raid and
repaired access to the vmdk files allowing us to recover the data from the vdisk's.
All the vdisks were vmware vmfs format.
iSCSI Data Recovery
Virtual machines are often mounted on iSCSI devices, and the iSCSI LUNS are
usually mounted on RAID5 or RAID6 systems. The raids are often constructed via LVM.
Most of the NAS makers eg Buffalo, Qnap, HP, Intel, Fujitsu Siemens SX80i etc offer
versions of their Network storage units specifically to be set up iSCSI storage. When
used in conjunction with Microsoft's iSCSI initiator they can create LUNs, Virtual
Volumes VMware ESX, VMFS partitions, Virtual Machines - VM's, Virtual Disks VDISK's,
NTFS partitions to name a few. We have recovered Virtual Volumes, iSCSI Virtual
Machines, ISCSI Virtual Disks Recovery.
Transfer iSCSI Virtual Machines to hdd
We can also convert a virtual disk or virtual machine to a normal hard drive.

VMFS Virtual Disk RecoveryVMDK file Recovery, Virtual Disk and Virtual Machines can be created by a number of different methods. The two we see here more commonly are Microsoft VirtualPC .VHD files and VMWare .VMDK files for Virtual Disk or Virtual Machine. We have recovered data from these even when they are built on top of Raid 5 or Raid 6 systems. Recent examples were from a Fujitsu Fibrecat on VMFS filesystem, HP MSA2324fc G2 running 9 SAS drives and Buffalo Terastation ISCSI unit with NTFS virtual machines. Terastation iSCSI Virtual Machine Disk RecoveryData Recovery, The Buffalo Terastation iSCSI IP SAN units display their storage as iSCSI virtual volumes and are available as desktop or rackmount versions. They consist of 4 SATA hard drives and the unit is usually used in conjunction with Microsoft's iSCSI initiator to provide anything from LUNs, Virtual Volumes VMware ESX vmfs, Citrix XenServer virtual machines, NTFS partitions to name a few. We have successfully recovered the Virtual Volumes from these units when there has been a hard drive error. Also we have recovered data even after when Buffalo has attempted to rebuild the raid5 to a new spare drive but the rebuild failed and simply kept going into a raid rebuild loop or the Terastation entered emergency mode and requested reformat. The best advice we have is to simply switch off the terastation and call is if you value getting your data back - the less it is messed with the better the chances of recovery.. |
