DLT stands for Digital Linear Tape sometimes known as CompacTape. It uses linear serpentine recording, similar to SLR tapes. We support CompacTape III ie. DLTtape III. The standard supports hardware data compression. The tape is housed in a cassette 10.5 cm x 10.5 cm x 2.5 cm (4 inch x 4.1 inch x 1 in). To read the tape, the tape is pulled out of the cartridge by means of a leader tape which is drawn through the dlt tape drive via a takeup reel inside the drive. DLT tapes uses include file backup, data archives and data transfer.
