SanDisk Supports Windows ReadyBoost in Upcoming USB Flash Drives and Memory Card. Windows Vista ReadyBoost speeds up performance by storing frequently used data in an unused area of RAM). Unallocated areas of the Sandisk USB flash drives or flash memory cards can be used by the system. According to Sandisk, "all data held in the ReadyBoost cache is encrypted, so there is no security risk if the flash drive or card is lost or stolen. A copy of the cached data is also kept on the computer’s hard disk at all times, so no data is lost in the event the flash drive or card is removed."

Kingston have released 2GB micro SD Flash memory cards. The capacity boost of the tiny microSD form factor will be welcomed by consumers needing more space to store and transport mobile content on sleeker multifunction mobile phones.

Canon new DC230, DC220 and DC210 DVD Camcorder feature a "Quick Start" function for instantly capturing video, as well as 35x Optical zoom. They use three-inch DVD-R/-RW discs, which can store up to 60 minutes of video on a single layer disc. Canon chose the DVD-R format for high compatability with DVD players. The DC220 and DC230 offer a miniSD memory card for recording still images.

Buffalo Technology launch its LinkStation Live - a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device that allows users to store this digital content and share or stream it around their home network. The NAS unit sizes are 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and 750GB and is Apple Mac compatible.

Lexar introduced several new usb flash drives at CES2007. These include the Lexar JumpDrive® 360 available in 1GB and 2GB with Secure II software. Also upgrades of Lexar JumpDrive Mercury with PowerToGo, JumpDrive Firefly and JumpDrive Secure II Upgrades with their 'Encrypted Vault' feature.

Following Apple's announcement for the new iPhone, there is great speculation over whose chip is used inside it. The smart money is on ARM whose history with Apple goes back to the Apple Newton, although this is contrary to Apple's main move to Intel x86 processors for its Mac-Book, Mac-Mini, iMac and Mac-Pro computers.

Tamil Nadu in India, is moving to Linux. It plans to move many desktops to Linux. Already, the state has deployed 6,500 Linux systems, with a further 20,000 SUSE-based boxes planned to be put into schools.

SanDisk have created a 32GB 1.8"inch flash drive to replace Hard Disks in notebook / laptop computers. The drive stores information on flash memory chips rather than the magnetic platters that make up a traditional hard drive. This will reduce power consumption as they don't contain moving parts.

The next generation encryption system for high-definition DVDs are looking into a hacker's claim that he has cracked the code protecting the new discs from piracy.

A hacker known as Muslix64 posted on the Internet details of how he unlocked the encryption, known as the Advanced Access Content System (AACS), which prevents high-definition discs from illegal copying by restricting which devices can play them.

Toshiba electronics wants consumers to use their HD-E1 DVD system rather than the rival Blu-Ray format. Blu-Ray is being backed by electronics firms Sony, Samsung and Panasonic as well as a number of film studios.
